Fulton Economic Development Corp. announced today it hired Tom Tucker as its new director.

He starts work on Monday at the FEDCO office, 822 Main St.
Tucker replaces Mike Busch, who resigned in December.

He will focus his efforts for the corporation on increasing entrepreneurial business and on retention and expansion of existing Fulton County businesses.

Tucker is an Akron native and lives in rural Mentone with his wife, the former Janet Besson.

He formerly was a senior executive within Fortune 1000 firms, include Central Soya and the Fort Wayne manufacturing firm, Tokheim, where he was senior vice president of business development.

Tucker said in a press release he hopes to make FEDCO a model of economic development within Indiana.

“And we’re going to make our case everywhere we can, whether it’s at the city level, the county level, the state level, the federal level or to our neighbors and friends,” he said.

“In choosing Tom, the FEDCO board showed a clear preference for someone with experience in putting deals together, in working one-on-one with folks who need help in their business expansion, and in someone who not only understands large business, but understands the needs of constraints of small business as well,” said Chris Sailors, a FEDCO board member.

Tucker is a graduate of Indiana University’s school of business, holding both undergraduate and graduate degrees in applied science and marketing, respectively. He has been active on external boards and councils, including Sci-Agra Corporation, the Animal Health Institute, the Mentone Flying Club, Spanish World Ministries and Riverview Community Church.

“He has an excellent reputation for working as a team player instead of being a hero and autocratic,” Sailors said.

Tucker said he was attracted, when applying for the job, by the allure of returning to his home county. “It feels somewhat like a homecoming,” he said. “When I came to put my bid in for the position, I received an unbelievable amount of support from all facets of people in the county. I am looking forward to digging in and making progress from the get-go.”

Tucker and his wife plan to move to Fulton County. Their two grown children are both Purdue University graduates.
