MFC September 15th Safety Meeting

From the President: A little info about the meeting.
Emails went out to airmen that had an email address on the first of the month. As far as online registers go, only 19 people did that. It stayed that way right up to the event. This started my worry process.

Dave Shick, from South Bend FSDO, emailed me a proof of the printed notice that the FAA would snail mail about 5-6 weeks ago. The notices did not get sent out to airmen, at least not all of them. I never received one. Most everyone I asked did not receive one. Jim Ewen said he got one just the day before the event. When I found this out, I was ticked. Dave Shick (the older fellow with a neck tie on) said he sent it to print the very day he sent it to me. So it was not his fault either.

The Club depended primarily on the FAA mailings for our main notification method. The posters that Dan Christman and Dan Funk did were great, but were to only be used as a supplement. Consequenly, the turnout of non-MFC people was quite low. Only 3 airplanes flew in. One from Warsaw, one from Logansport, and one from Kokomo. I estimate the total number attending to be about 45. I very much wanted the number to be over 100.

I guess the saying is once again proven true.....ATC is your friend, but the FAA isn't!

On a positive note....a surprizing number of club members turned out. I would estimate about 30. It's a good thing too, or the entire thing would have been a disasterous failure that we had no control of at all. Also, Julie Bailey (blue Shirt) from Avshop came to represent the store and give away a door prize.

The Gary Tower guys were great as usual. The Gary Tower guys are Scott Embury (short guy with white shirt) and Hermis Miller (big tall guy with a blue shirt). A couple of their prizes were "Super Prizes" that were valued at $1000. Tom Tucker won a prize that included free airfare to anywhere he wanted in the continental U.S. on USAIR.
