Mentone Flying Club History By Month  -- September  1969 thru Present

1972:

08 Sept – Club voted to upgrade the radio in 60T to a 3 channel radio for $750.

 

Sept – Mentone airport runway was being resurfaced.  (Club donated money to help.)

 

1973:

 

1980:

 12 Sept – Club started using a check-out form for all new members, due to a former member not understanding the by-laws.

 

 20 Sept – Wash and Wax day at the Mentone Airport.

 

1981:

 

1982:

7 Sept – Club sponsored a Safety meeting at the Fulton County Airport.

 

13 Sept – Club ordered Jackets and Hats with the club logo on them.  (First time)

 

26 Sept – Ultralight fly-in at the Mentone Airport.  The club was to take our MX ultralight over to it. 

 

Sept – The Cessna 150’s were approved for auto gas.

 

1983:

 

1984:

8 Sept – Rough River Trip (Clifty Inn) at Madison, IN.  Five aircraft were flown down, twenty people made the trip.  Harrison Crabill drove down to provide ground transportation.

 

1985:

13 Sept – Club set up a committee to look into club finances.

 

1986:

1 Sept – Club deadline for members to have demonstrated full stall landings in club aircraft.  (became a new policy/by-law) Violators were fined one hour of flight time and grounded until they had complied with the new requirement.

 

12 Sept – Club voted to donate $100 over a three year period to help build a new Historical Society Museum so that we would always have a place for aviation.

 

1987:

 

1988:

9 Sept – Made a motion to sell 55N.

 

9 Sept – New Maintenance program initiated by club member Dave Wright.  The new program would along with the standard crew chiefs, all so set up 2 assistant crew chiefs, and work groups for each aircraft.  A folder for all maintenance to be completed was set up for each aircraft.  Each group would rotate hanger maintenance each month.

 

Sept – Brought aircraft sign-out board down to the hanger from the terminal building.  (FCA employees were getting upset at having to answers phone calls and schedule planes for club members.)

 

Sept – Club agreed to assign a veteran club member to new club members as a mentor.

 

1989:

Sept – Farm progress show held in Rochester.  Club had a food stand set up outside the hanger.

28 Sept – MFC picnic

 

Sept – Club voted to fine people who flew past oil changes.

 

Sept – Club purchased a 1968 Cessna 150 (N150MC) for $10,500.

 

1992:

12 Sept – Spot landing / bombing contest was held.

 

Sept – Club presented Harrison a plaque for all the work he had done for the club over the past years.

 

Sept – Club voted to remove the 6 month probation period for new members. Club also voted out the mandatory Olympic Contest participation requirement.

 

Sept – Set-up an orientation committee to instruct new members in “the ways of the club”.

 

 

1993:

16 Sept – Voted to sell the Cherokee Six.

 

1994:

15 Sept – Voted to move the meeting night to the third Tuesday of each month starting in Nov 04.

 

24 Sept – club trip to Yoders Restaurant (rain or shine)

 

 

1995:

Sept – Purchased a new Cessna 150 – N3607V

 

1996:

28 Sept – MFC Kite Flying Contest

 

1997:

 

1998:

Sept – Club had N4269T repainted.

 

1999:

Sept – Bought new bi-fold door for the Northern (small) hanger.

 

2000:

Sept – Long time member / club president Harrison Crabill passed away.

 

2001:

22 Sept – Wash & Wax day with Flower bombing contest afterwards.

2003:

Sept – Bi-fold door began to be installed on the main hanger.
